Selecting Data

The Scottish Government tracks data in three ways. The first is by local authority district, the second is by health board - which encompasses multiple local authority districts - and the third is on a national level.

You can change between local authority districts, health boards and national data using the dropdown menu below the heading ' Resolution ' at the top of the centre of the page. Each resolution displays different information for different areas.

  • Local Authority Disctricts
    • In this resolution each district informs you of the number of deaths per week, where the deaths are occuring and how the community in that area is moving.
  • Health Boards
    • Here you can see the number of cases per day, current ICU patients, total hospital COVID-19 patients as well as the cumulative number of COVID-19 patients.
  • National
    • An overall view of Scotland, informing you of the total number of cases, deaths, occupied ICU beds and the amount of tests being carried out.

When viewing the map using the local authority district data source or national data source you will see that each district has a different shade of red. The greater the intensity of this red indicates how severe the chosen data metric is for that district. This data metric can be changed using the dropdown above the centre of the map.

How Is The Community Moving?

This graph uses anonymised insights from Google Maps to give an indication of movement trends over time across different categories of places such as retail and recreation, groceries and pharmacies, parks, transit stations, workplaces, and residential areas. Each data point is compared against the UK average.

Current ICU Patients (confirmed or suspected of COVID-19)

The below number is generated by taking the sum of all occupied ICU beds for each health board in Scotland. However, the Scottish Government does not produce the number of occupied ICU beds for a health board if that number is less than 5. Therefore, the actual number of occupied ICU beds may be slightly larger than the below number.
